Rathcroghan Museum
Power, Death and the Otherworld
Step back in time with a visit to our museum, to see how our Iron Age and medieval ancestors dressed, ate, lived and what they believed in. Discover the role of Rathcroghan in our national epic, the Táin Bó Cúailnge (Cattle Raid of Cooley),and Queen Medb’s struggle against the might of Cú Chulainn and the Ulaid (Ulstermen). Rathcroghan Visitor Centre is currently home to Óenach Cruachain, a collection of thirty-five artefacts discovered within the mid-Roscommon landscape, which previously resided in the National Museum of Ireland, Kildare St. Dublin, and were unavailable to public viewing. The collection represents the various aspects of the domestic, equestrian, feasting, ritual and at times, brutal lives of our ancestors. Visitors, young and old, are invited to bring Ireland’s past and legends to life, by exploring our interactive exhibits and audio-visual presentations.
